Two priests get new assignments

Bishop George V. Murry has announced the appointment of two pastors to new assignments.
The Rev. Stephen Popovich is appointed pastor of St. Paul Church in New Middletown, effective today.
The Rev. Thomas Eisweirth is appointed pastor of Blessed Sacrament Church in Warren, effective Sept. 11.
After ordination on June 6, 1981, Father Popovich served as associate pastor at St. James Church in Warren. He was appointed catechist at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Louisville, then associate principal at Cardinal Mooney High School in Youngstown. He served as pastor at Assumption Church in Geneva, St. Paul Church in Salem and St. Lucy Church in Campbell, before being named to his most current assignment as pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Austintown. Father Popovich served as director of the diocesan Ministry to Priests program and director of Continuing Education and Formation of Priests. He has served on the Priests’ Personnel Board, the Priests’ Council and is dean of Mahoning County-North Deanery. He also served as chaplain for the Catholic Committee on Scouting.
Father Eisweirth was ordained June 15, 1974. He served as associate pastor at St. Rose Church in Girard and Kent State Newman Center. He served as pastor at Sacred Heart Parish in Youngstown. His most recent assignment was pastor of St. Paul Church in Salem and administrator of St. Patrick Church in Leetonia. Father Eisweirth served on the Priests’ Personnel Board and was dean of Columbiana County Deanery.
