The students at St. Joseph and Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Austintown had a lot to say Tuesday about their first week back to school.

The students, including those from kindergarten, first, sixth and seventh grade, had some very extraordinary summer vacations. Many students did a lot of swimming, playing, and traveling with their families, including going to places like South Dakota, Disneyland and New York City.

Many of the sixth-graders in Kathleen Dubois’ class spent their summer traveling for sports, including baseball, soccer and ice dancing. It is easy to understand that some students aren’t looking forward to the homework and early mornings that a new school year brings.

Tyler Stringfellow, a seventh-grader in Mrs. Nicastro’s class, said it all with a sigh.

“I wish I could sleep all day and watch TV.”

However, most of the kids at SJIHM are ready and excited to be back. Kindergartner Evan Sakmar is excited about meeting new friends, trying new things, and learning.

First-grade teacher Mary Ann Bell looks forward to “the new children I’m teaching this year, and the new and unique challenges each year brings.”

“I think St. Joseph and Immaculate Heart has a wonderful year ahead,” said Principal John Rozzo.
