Meeting at the library
The friends of the Poland Library will meet Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Poland library meeting room.
Gloria Rule will present a book review, followed by the business meeting. A potluck luncheon will follow with members bringing their favorite dishes to share.
Dessert and beverages will be provided. Hostesses for the June meeting are June Deely, Marjorie Downie, Glenda Hoagland and Emma Eggleston.
Recent magazine and book donations will be collected for the Poland library book cart fund raiser.
Local church hosts community event
Prince of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church of Poland will be celebrating Rally Day Sept. 12.
Worship begins at 9:30 a.m. with games and a picnic to follow.
There will be opportunities to sign up for various classes including adult Sunday school, Sunday school for Kindergarten through fourth grade and catechism grades five through eight.
Starting Sept. 19, Sunday school begins at 9 a.m. and worship at 10 a.m. through fall, winter and spring.

Get a flu shot at the fair
Walgreens will offer seasonal flu shots at its location in the fairgrounds during the Canfield Fair.
The cost is $29.99, cash only or the co-pay of Medicare. The shots will be available every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Walgreens will be located at the corner of Miller and Kohler.
The AARP/Wellness bus will be on location and offering screenings through Monday for blood pressure, cholesterol, bone density, glucose and body mass index from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Buy a silver lining ticket
That Quilt Group I Belong To is selling tickets to its annual charity quilt fundraising benefit for The Silver Lining Cancer Fund.
Tickets can be purchased for $1 each and $5 for six by calling Carol Svetlak at 330-788-5122. The winning ticket will be drawn at the group’s Christmas dinner Dec. 13.

Local theater company to perform a classic
Move Over Broadway Productions will present “The Gospel according to St. Matthew,” conceived and originally directed by John Michael Teblak with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz.
This performance is being directed by Marlene Menaldi Strollo with musical direction by Jodine Pilmer and choreography by Nick Opritza.
Scheduled performances are Friday, Sept. 11 and 12 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Michael Family Life Center Stage on Route 46 in Canfield.

Learn to financially plan for your future
Poland Presbyterian Church will offer a 13-week financial planning class for the community.
Financial Peace University (FPU) is designed to teach families how to get out of debt or avoid the debt trap by building a strong financial foundation. The class meets for two hours each week and features discussions led by popular financial adviser, Dave Ramsey. Ramsey is heard on many radio stations throughout the country.

CCNC hosts golf outing in Canfield
Canfield Community Net Care is hosting its ninth annual Paul Baringer Golf Classic Sept. 13 at Mill Creek Park golf course in Canfield.
Registration begins at 9 a.m., followed by breakfast at 10:15 a.m.
The shotgun start begins at 10:30 a.m. Dinner and an awards ceremony will take place at 4 p.m.

Quilts needed for show
Lordstown High School will host the Fabric Patchers Annual Quilt show Sept. 18-19.

Make botanical pottery Sept. 14
Lynn Cardwell will teach students to construct a clay bowl embossed with leaf patters Sept. 14 at Fellows Riverside Gardens from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The work will be glazed with autumn colors and ready to take home approximately three weeks after the class.
