The 17th annual pilgrimage in honor of Our Sorrowful Mother will be Sept. 12 at Our Lady of Lebanon Shrine, North Lipkey Road, with devotions at 3 p.m. and anointing of the sick followed by confession and Mass in Slovak.
Attending clergy will concelebrate with the Rev. George M. Franko, principal celebrant, and the Rev. David J. Shortt, homilist.
Dinner will be served after Mass.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $6 for children younger than 12. Tickets are available from Slovak Catholic Federation members or by calling 330-782-9126. No tickets will be sold at the door.
The pilgrimage is open to all; dinner is optional.

The Community Association of Churches will sponsor the third annual Sunday School Teachers’ Conference from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 25 at Greater Friendship Baptist Church, 646 Lakewood Ave.
Elder James Bowie is host pastor.
Topics and presenters will be praise and worship by Pastor David Moncrieft of Triedstone Baptist Church, church etiquette by the Rev. Dr. Lewis Macklin of Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church and prayers and praying by Pastor Larry McCulloh of World Fellowship Church.

‘Church Forward’

Pastors and administrators of churches from all denominations may attend a free information event, “Church Forward,” planned from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 15 at Old North Church, 7105 Herbert Road, hosted by AmericanChurch Inc.
Five speakers will cover topics such as optimizing giving in difficult times, digital media 101, local resources available to churches, expanding the vision of the church, and working cooperatively in the church and community.

Back to Church
Bethel Assembly of God, 3807 Mahoning Ave., Austintown, and its pastor, the Rev. Daniel Tayman, and Summit Assembly of God, 2615 Salt Springs Road, McDonald, and its pastor, the Rev. Jeff Street, will participate in Back to Church Sunday, a national movement of churches to encourage formerly churched people to “rediscover church” and try it again.
Sept. 12 will be Back to Church Day.
According to LifeWay Research, 38 percent of people are receptive to attending church and 82 percent say they would be open to attending if a friend invited them.

In concert

The Children of the World International Children’s Choir will be in concert at 7 p.m. Sunday at Abundant Life Fellowship, 46469 state Route 46.
Speaking during the free concert will be the Rev. Cyrus Mad-Bondo, Africa director of World Help, a global agency under which the Children’s Choir operates.
The choir, made up of disadvantaged and orphaned children from Uganda, Nepal and the Philippines, ministers in music and dance as a way to raise awareness of the need for clean water around the world.

Unity Church Centre, 1226 Naylor-Lloyd Road, will mark Unity World Day of Prayer in a 24-hour vigil starting at 7 p.m. Wednesday with Pastor Ric Schumacher and the music team.
Silent Unity, an international, trans-denominational 24/7 prayer ministry and Unity churches worldwide, will observe the 17th annual Unity World Day of Prayer.
The theme is “Living in the Flow,” and the prayer or affirmation is “We are living expressions of Divine light flowing forth into the world.”
The theme has special meaning for Unity Headquarters at Unity Village, Mo., where the restoration of its landmark central fountains will be celebrated.

Fall program

The First Presbyterian Church, 3654 Main St., will begin its fall program schedule Sept. 12.
Church school for all ages will begin at 9:15 a.m. and will be followed by the morning worship service at 10:30 a.m.
The Rev. Cindy Carlisle, interim pastor, will begin her duties at the church that Sunday.
After worship, there will be a potluck lunch hosted by the church growth and fellowship committee. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided by the committee. Those attending are asked to bring a casserole or dessert to share.
On Sept. 19, there will be a pasta dinner after worship and will be served until 3 p.m.
Ticket donations are $7 with children 5 and younger free. Tickets can be bought at the door or by calling the church office at 330-652-5712.
There will be a Chinese auction on theme baskets.

A lecture series on the Holy Trinity will start at 6 p.m. Thursday at St. Michael Carpatho-Rusyn Orthodox Church hall, 127 Steel St.
The Rev. Andrew Gromm will present the program based on the eighth-century ”Exposition of the Orthodox Faith” by St. John of Damascus. The Trinity explains all of reality; who you are, how to approach truth and where society goes wrong.

The Diocesan Infant Jesus of Prague Guild will gather at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 15 at Infant of Prague Byzantine Church, 7754 South Ave., then leave on a bus tour to Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna.
After lunch, the group also will stop at Kent State University Fashion Museum, Harry London chocolate factory and Flower Factory in Canton.
A buffet dinner will be at the 356th Fighter Group Restaurant in North Canton, then the group will visit the Maps Air Museum.

The “Church of Youngstown” is invited to participate in a series of prayer meetings planned from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Rosh Hashana, through Sept. 17, Yom Kippur, at Metro Assesmbly of God, 2530 South Ave.
The sessions will focus on 10 different categories of repentance for revival in the city.
Local ministers will participate.
