A man who was shot once in the leg and twice in the back April 14 in a normally quiet Boardman residential neighborhood has been indicted on cocaine- and marijuana-trafficking charges pertaining to alleged drug offenses on the same day.
The drug charges that the Mahoning County grand jury lodged Thursday against Alynn S. Grant, 32, of Liberty Road, say the offenses were committed in the vicinity of a juvenile.
The charges carry specifications that seek forfeiture of Grant’s 1994 Cadillac DeVille and $12,910 in cash he possessed, both allegedly having been linked to his drug dealing.
Grant told police he pulled into the driveway in the 6500 block of Mill Creek Boulevard and saw Casimiro Ellis, 29, of East Avondale Avenue, walking toward him with a gun just before Grant was shot.
Ellis was arrested a week later in Warren on an attempted-murder charge, which is still pending before Judge Lou A. D’Apolito of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.
Police said the shooting was related to a woman who once shared the Mill Creek Boulevard residence with Grant. She and Grant had a relationship, but it was ending because of domestic issues, and she was in a relationship with Ellis when the shooting occurred, police said.
Ellis had been released from prison in 2009 after serving 10 years on a voluntary-manslaughter charge. He was convicted in 2000 in the shooting death of Karl Green.
