The Canfield Gridiron Club, the volunteer parent booster club for the Canfield Local School’s football teams, held its annual Meet the Team Steak Fry fundraiser at the Canfield High School cafeteria Aug. 21.

According to Joe Reinthaler, president of the Canfield Gridiron Club, the fundraiser is the club’s biggest of the year and proceeds defray the costs of equipment and helps to meet the needs of the seventh-grade through varsity football programs.

The menu included steak, potatoes, corn, salad, cake and beverage. The club received donations to the dinner, including Kaleel Brothers donating produce.

Reinthaler also said, on average, the club serves 750 people each year.

Each football squad, from seventh-grade to varsity, took shifts to help with the fundraiser, including cleaning tables. After each of their shifts, the teams were introduced to family and friends on the football field, with the varsity team being introduced at a rally at the end of the fundraiser.

Members of the Canfield Gridiron Club volunteered in all aspects of the fundraiser, from selling tickets to working in the kitchen, from serving meals to selling Canfield Cardinals apparel, doing dishes and cooking steaks on the grill.

A silent auction, Chinese auction and 50/50 raffle were also available. The Chinese auction included 46 baskets with donations from each football squad, cheerleaders, football families and local businesses, including George McDonnell at Canfield Computers; Trolios; Komara Jewelers; Dr. Squicquero, D.D.S.; Caf Darrs, Capello Hair Salon, Come Stay and Play Doggie Daycare, Magnolias on the Green, DuCut/Tru Value, Wild Birds Unlimited; Livia Calais Bridal; Farmers National Bank and Home Savings Bank.

The Canfield Athletic Boosters is sponsoring a Game Time Tailgate Party from 3-9 p.m. Sept. 11 at the Maronite Center. The Ohio State-Miami (Fla.) football game will be shown.
