Austintown’s 39th annual Fitch Band Night ushered in a new school year and band season for five area bands Monday, including Fitch, Boardman, Canfield, Jackson Milton and Ursuline.
The star of the show was the Fitch Falcons Marching Band, who opened the show with a patriotic overture of “Battle Hymn of the Republic” and “The Star Spangled Banner.”
The other bands performed arranged shows for the crowd. The Canfield Cardinals band performed a themed selection about love, including everything from Aretha Franklin tunes to the current hit “Love Drunk” by Boys Like Girls.
The Boardman Spartans band performed a selection of contemporary hits that promised to bring the crowd “over, under, and beyond the sea” and delivered.
Fitch closed the event with a traditional, patriotic show that prominently featured the skills of their drum line, rifle team and flag line.
“I think the night went wonderfully, and we are so grateful to welcome these amazingly talented bands to Falcon Stadium,” said assistant Austintown band director Erin Whistler.
Whistler said she hopes the coming year will bring “continued improvement, precision and great memories for our band.”
