Canfield girls soccer team has experience
By GREG GULAS
Now in his third season as head coach of the girl’s soccer program, Phil Simone returns eight seniors and five juniors to a team that went 13-3-6 overall last season.
They were 2-1-3 overall in the always tough All-American Conference and finished as runners-up to eventual champion, the Howland Tigers.
As long as we can stay healthy and keep improving, then we should do well this season. We have upperclass leadership and that will definitely be a big bonus for us throughout the season,” Simone said.
Lost to graduation were eight seniors; Audrey Smith, Jenne Bataglia, Michelle Gettemy, Jessica Hughes, Elly Fening, Rachael, Kantaras, Dayna Love and Brooke Mangiarelli.
Returning seniors include tri-captains Meredith Gleichert, Katie Carlisle and Alys Cook, and Katie Siskowic, Jackie Podolsky, Gia Nigro, Rachel Morris and Kacie Blank.
Juniors dotting the roster include Shelby Lazar, Brogan Todd, Selena Dasari, Kendyl Carlisle and Alexa Billy while sophomores Lauren Pettola, Jen Morris, Jen Love, Kaylee Buchenic and Paige Baker, and freshman Emma Seybert are all ready to contribute.
The Cardinals have already defeated Hubbard (5-0) and tied Austintown Fitch (0-0) and after playing host to Poland this past Wednesday, will travel to North Canton Hoover today for a clash with the Federal League’s Vikings.
