Attendance figures affected by heat

Thursday’s fair attendance was 38,580, bringing the two-day total to 61,423.
Canfield Fair Director Timm Schreiber said this number is slightly lower than last year, but he attributes it to the 90-degree temperatures Wednesday and Thursday.
“We’re off slightly through the first two days,” he said. “But we should have no problem making it up in the coming days.”
Last year’s Thursday attendance total was 41,307.
Fair Board honors Nobles for service
CANFIELD
Marge and Dick Noble were honored by the Canfield Fair Board on Friday afternoon.
Marge is retiring as superintendent of the draft horses and ponies this year. Her husband, Dick, has shown ponies at the fair since 1937.
“The fair has always been a huge part of our lives,” Marge said. “ But I felt it’s time to retire.”
Truck and tractor pull tonight at Grandstand
Canfield
The Championship Truck and Tractor Pull is today. The event is begins at 7 p.m. in the Grandstand and features the USA East and the National Tractor Pullers Association circuits.
Tickets are $12 for reserve track seats, $10 for Grandstand seating and $5 for youths age 7 to 12.
Governor to present softball proclamation
CANFIELD
Gov. Ted Strickland will stop by the Canfield Fair this afternoon. Strickland will arrive about 4:30 p.m. and will present a proclamation to the Poland Community Little League softball team that finished fourth in the Little League Softball World Series. The ceremony will be at the main concourse stage, near the Grandstand.
In first year of 4-H, boy is winner with lamb

In his first year of 4-H, Nathan Miller took Reserve Champion for market lamb Thursday evening. Miller, 9, of Greenford, is a member of Pine Lakes 4-H Club and said he was surprised that he won.
“I heard everybody screaming for me,” he said. “Let’s just say I was happy.”
