Man charged in Memorial Day death of baby girl

NEW CASTLE, Pa.

William Hess Jr. , 23, has been charged with homicide in the death of an 11-month-old girl last May.

New Castle police say Hess was watching the baby at a Lyndal street home on Memorial Day while her mother was at work.

That night police responded to a call about a child not breathing and found Kaelin Davis with bruises to her face, and a broken wrist and ankle.

Police reports say a witness said that Hess grabbed the baby by the ankle and dropped her head first onto a mattress, then laughed about it.

When brought in for questioning, Hess said when he is drinking things can get dangerous and he has black-outs. He admitted drinking that day and originally blamed a dog for the baby’s injuries.

Hess is currently in another state where he is expected to be arrested.
