Movie night in Poland is over for another year.
The Yellow Creek Theater wrapped up its sixth season under the bridge at the Poland library with the screening of “The Music Man” Aug. 27.
The 2010 lineup included eight classic movies, in addition to a sidewalk chalk contest Aug. 20 and a Classic Car and Elvis Tribute fundraiser July 23.
Donations at the fundraiser yielded $776, which was given to Brett Wilcox. The event included the Mahoning Valley Olde Car Club Elvis tribute artist Jim Penney, who performed for a record-breaking audience.
“We had a wonderful season filled with dancing, singing, and music that kept the crowds entertained and amused,” explained Joanne Eiselstein, one of the organizers of the event. “It included icons like Fred Astaire, Bing Crosby, Elvis, John Wayne and Humphrey Bogart.
“Entertainers like these just don’t go out of fashion; they get better with age and bring back memories to many of our moviegoers and enlighten our younger audiences.”
According to Eiselstein, this year’s attendance was probably the largest ever, averaging around 150. A couple movies drew around 350 people.
“Aug. 20 brought out many families with their children to see Walt Disney’s ‘Dumbo’,” she said. “The Friends of the Library provided coloring and chalk activities for the event.”
Yellow Creek Theatre is completely funded by generous sponsors and patrons. Those donating for the 2010 season were Simco Property Management, Wittenauer’s, Anthony and Zomoida, LLC, Aqua Ohio, Armstrong, Betras Maruca Kopp and Harshman, Jim Brown, CLU - State Farm, Tim Cearfoss - American Family Insurance, Commonwealth Suburban Title Agency,

“Our sponsors drive what we are able to do each year,” said Eiselstein. “We strive constantly to provide a safe and attractive environment for all to enjoy. One of our goals next year is to replace the brick on the three landings of Reed Memorial Stairway that connects walking traffic from Route 224 down to the theater and library.”
