ABWA’s local chapter selects woman of year

Youngstown Charter Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association announces its 2010 Woman of the Year, Beth Stanko.

Stanko was honored recently during a banquet featuring the theme “Move Over Hollywood, Here We Come. ...” Hostesses of the event, at Michael Alberini’s Restaurant in Boardman, were Patti Mika and Sue Caven.

Stanko was nominated by fellow ABWA members Cathy Pokrivnak and Mary Ann Rushton because of the exceptional dedication she has shown and her commitment to the ABWA.

Stanko resides in Boardman and is the owner of Gem’s Bridal and Floral in Boardman. Stanko was surprised by the attendance of some of her family and friends: Gary and Margie Stanko, Michael and Linda Stanko, Edward Stanko, Jane Maro, Ann Sinchak, and Maria Giammarco.

As 2010 Woman of the Year, Stanko will model at the ABWA annual Fashion Prevue on Sept. 19 at Mr. Anthony’s in Boardman. ABWA asks for public support of the ABWA scholarship fundraising event. Tickets can be purchased by calling 330-533-8730.

The ABWA has several chapters in the tri-county area and is known for its generosity in donating more than $500,000 collectively in college scholarship funds for local students since its inception in 1954.
