Yo. paving company awarded County Line Road contract

MINERAL RIDGE

Weathersfield Township trustees awarded a contract to Shelly and Sands Inc., Youngstown, for $519,143 for repaving County Line Road.

The project paving cost will be slightly less than expected, which will allow for a savings of $11,706 to be shared by Mahoning County and the township, Trustee Steven Gerberry said.

The township had received a $445,000 grant for the project through the Ohio Public Works Commission. The original price tag on the 1.5 miles of County Line Road paving was $645,000.

Mahoning County and Weathersfield were to both contribute $100,000 toward the project, but those amounts will be reduced because the paving bid came in lower than expected. The projected paving cost was $530,000, Gerberry said.

No project start date has been set. The road is to be paved from Four Mile Run Road to state Route 46.

Construction of storm-water control is included in the plans. The Mahoning County side of the road is in Austintown Township, but is considered a county road. The street is also known as Ohltown-Girard Road.

Mahoning County agreed to help pay the local match for the program as long as Weathersfield was the lead agency applying for the state Issue 1 grant and is administered by the Ohio Department of Public Works.

MS Consultants of Youngstown is project manager.

County Line Road was last repaved in 1996 using state Issue 2 funds.
