A Volant, Pa., man who was killled Saturday night was shot with a BB gun, said New Castle Police Chief Tom Sansone.
Sansone said Frank Breitenstein, 45, died after a BB pierced his chest, striking a key artery.
Sansone said Breitenstein was leaving a home on New Castle’s West Side when he saw a younger man who appeared to be shooting a BB gun at nearby houses.
Breitenstein and the younger man exchanged words before the shooting, Sansone said.
Breitenstein chased the shooter but began coughing up blood, Sansone said.
He was taken to Jameson Hospital, where he went into cardiac arrest and died.
No charges have been filed.
MDA telethon at mall

The local venue for the 2010 Muscular Dystrophy Association’s national telethon is Center Court of Eastwood Mall from 9 a.m. Sunday to 7 p.m. Monday. The venue was previously the Canfield Fair.
This is the 44th year of MDA’s national Telethon hosted by National Chairman Jerry Lewis. MDA is a voluntary, national health agency, the goal of which is to conquer 43 different neuro-muscular diseases. Most of the diseases are genetic.
The Northeast Ohio District of MDA provides services to more than 600 families in 14 counties, including Mahoning and Trumbull, with clinic support, repairs of durable medical equipment, support groups, vaccinations and summer camp for children age 6 to 17.
WYTV 33 in Youngstown is broadcasting the local MDA event.
Fundraiser planned at VFW Post 6488

Howard & The 5-Point Band will entertain during a fund-raiser Saturday at VFW Post 6488, 2065 Coitsville- Hubbard Road (state Route 616), beginning at 6 p.m. There is no cover charge. Food and drinks will be for sale. Proceeds will benefit the Post 6488 Youth Fund.
Boil-water order on Moreland Drive
CANFIELD
Residents on Moreland Drive should boil all tap water used for drinking, cooking and oral hygiene until 2 p.m. today.
The city issued a precautionary boil order for those residents after a waterline break on Moreland Drive on Wednesday.
There is no evidence that the water system was contaminated, but the city is urging residents to boil water vigorously for one minute before use as a precaution.
Man arrested after North Side shooting

A man was arrested after firing an assault rifle out his window on Tacoma Avenue, police said.
Police surrounded the house, near Wick Avenue, at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday.
No one was injured. A shift supervisor at the police department said a report was not complete Wednesday night.
