POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

Aug. 25

Recovered property: Two mailboxes that had been stolen in the 5100 block of Youngstown-Poland Road were found in a wooded area.

Aug. 26

Arrest: Jessica K. Perry, 26, of 6518 Roselynn Place, Poland, surrendered at Struthers Municipal Court on a theft count.

Aug. 27

Criminal mischief: Someone damaged part of a driveway in the 5600 block of Clingan Road.

Possible theft: A woman reported having lost a $7,700 gold bracelet in the 3100 block of Dobbins Road.

Aug. 29

Identity theft: A Bedford Road woman filed a report regarding an $1,112 unauthorized charge.

BOARDMAN

Aug. 26

Theft: A $30 belt-clip radio was stolen from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Theft: A Youngstown boy, 12, was charged in the theft of two pairs of men’s pants from Dollar General, 5953 South Ave.

Fraud: A Havenwood Drive woman discovered a scam when someone claiming to be from a credit-card company said she owed the company $246 for a purchase she never made.

Domestic violence: Edward M. Makosky, 47, of 4870 Brookwood Road, Boardman, was charged with the crime after his daughter alleged that during an argument, Makosky struck her several times and pushed her.

Robbery: A man in his 50s pushed a Walmart official who tried to stop him, then fled after a $37 pair of boots had been stolen.

Arrest: Police took into custody 44-year-old Daniel J. Ochman, 4639 Tippecanoe Road, Boardman. He was wanted on a probation-violation charge.

Possible theft: A Green Glen Drive woman reported her credit card lost or stolen.

Theft: A $250 AM/FM/compact-disc player was taken from a vehicle at a Market Street dealership.

Criminal mischief: A window was broken at a building in the 4900 block of Southern Boulevard.

Aggravated menacing: A Boardman-Canfield Road woman said another woman threatened to harm her.

Criminal damaging: A 3-inch circle was burned into a front yard in the 4600 block of Waseka Lane, possibly from a firecracker.

Aug. 27

Assault: A man on Indianola Road told police another man pulled him from his car, struck him repeatedly in the face and threatened his life.

Drug paraphernalia: Police investigated a suspicious vehicle on Sierra Madre Trail, then charged 58-year-old Richard N. Ames Jr., 231 Edna St., Poland, with possession of drug paraphernalia and drug-abuse instruments when, they said, a suspected crack pipe and a syringe were found.

Theft: A Youngstown woman accused her daughter of taking a $1,000 ring from her at a Boardman-Poland Road restaurant.

Domestic violence: Police took 32-year-old Paul E. Weston II into custody at his home, 335 W. Warren Ave., Youngstown, and charged him after a Glendale Avenue woman alleged Weston had punched the right side of her face during an argument.

Misuse of a credit card: A Melbourne Avenue man found out his card had been used without permission to make two purchases totaling $805.

Truck theft: A 1977 Chevrolet pickup truck was stolen at a South Avenue dealership.

Theft: A township woman reported her wallet stolen at a Boardman-Poland Road eatery.

Drugs: A traffic stop on Midlothian Boulevard led to the arrest of Tyrone Smith, 58, of 97 Lilburne Ave., Youngstown, on three counts of drug abuse and one of possession of drug paraphernalia. A pill bottle with several medications and a suspected crack pipe were found, a police report said.

Aug. 28

Domestic violence: Authorities charged 40-year-old Donald L. Bagdassarian Jr., 7148 Ron Park Place, Boardman, with domestic violence, obstructing official business and resisting arrest after his wife alleged an intoxicated Bagdassarian had grabbed her hair, thrown her to the floor and made numerous threats. He also refused to cooperate with police, they said.

Burglary: At a residence in the 100 block of Island Drive, from which $2,500 worth of jewelry was stolen.

Theft: A 16-year-old Transfer, Pa., girl was charged with stealing a T-shirt from Macy’s in the Southern Park Mall.

Theft: A $400 ladder was stolen in the 4200 block of Oak Knoll Drive.

Theft/damage: Two vehicles at the Southern Park Mall had damage to their door locks. Stolen were an MP3 player, a computer hard drive and an in-dash CD player.

Theft: A man stole items from Walgreen’s Pharmacy, 525 E. Midlothian Blvd.

Burglary: To a home in the 7000 block of Paxton Road through a rear window. Taken were $400 and a laptop computer.

Attempted burglaries: Someone pried screen windows in an effort to enter two apartments in the 7100 block of Locust Lane.

Aug. 29

Auto theft: A 1998 Toyota Corolla was stolen in the 900 block of East Midlothian Boulevard.

Theft: All of the hubcaps were stolen off a vehicle in the 1200 block of Doral Drive.

Vandalism: Someone did $2,000 in damage to a car’s paint in the 7900 block of Market Street.

Criminal mischief: Someone tossed garbage from a trash bin and tore down a net and tape near a parking lot at a soccer field off Riverside Drive.

Menacing: A Kiowa Drive man said a neighbor had threatened him.

Theft: Satavia A. Douglass, 18, of 3003 Southern Blvd., Youngstown, and a 13-year-old city boy were charged in the theft of 11 video games from Walmart.

Menacing: David A. Larson, 40, of 3883 Timothy Lane, Boardman, was charged after a neighbor alleged Larson had threatened to harm her.

Theft: Two men in their 20s stole three bottles of perfume from Walmart.

Arrest: Carolyn A. Curran, 43, of 189 Lowell Ave., Youngstown, was picked up near Market Street and Midlothian Boulevard. Curran was wanted by Columbiana County authorities on a contempt-of-court charge.

Theft: Willie Lawrence Jr., 43, of Shaker Heights, Ohio, faced a felony charge, accused of stealing two $280 coats and a pair of shoes from the J.C. Penney store in the Southern Park Mall.

Aug. 30

Theft: Two cell-phone cases were stolen from Walmart, resulting in a summons to Douglas R. Gue, 53, of 2388 Shetland Lane, Poland.

Arrest: Officers investigated a suspicious person near Market Street and arrested 56-year-old Joseph A. Cerni, 55 Aylesboro Ave., Boardman, on two counts of failing to appear in court.

Theft: Two cartons of cigarettes were stolen from a BP Unimart station, 1090 Boardman-Poland Road.

Menacing: A Clifton Drive woman reported getting threats via phone.

Theft: A $1,400 laptop computer and an accessory were removed from an apartment in the 4000 block of South Schenley Avenue.

Theft: A package mailed to a Boardman-Poland Road woman was stolen.

Theft: A radio/CD player was removed from a car at the Southern Park Mall.

Criminal mischief: A yard flag and a fertilizer hose were damaged at a home in the 5800 block of Stillson Place.
