Youngstown Hungarian Club to celebrate Heritage Day

Youngstown Hungarian Club, 2219 Donald Ave., will celebrate Hungarian Heritage Day from 1 to 6 p.m. Sept. 12 at the clubhouse. There will be authentic Hungarian folk art, music and food.
In observance of the club’s 25th anniversary, Our Lady of Hungary Church will have an outdoor Mass at noon at the club. There will also be a drawing for the parish raffle.
Among those providing musical entertainment will be Andrew Check, 16, who was inspired to play the cimbalom by his grandfather, and has performed on the “Souvenirs of Hungary” radio program. Hungarian and American music will also be played by Steve Pal and his orchestra.
There will be displays of folk art, paintings, old photos, clothing, handwork and figurines dating back to the 1900s
Available for purchase will be such traditional and ethnic foods as Hungarian goulash, stuffed cabbage, chicken, cabbage and noodles, kolbassi and sauerkraut, crepes, dobos torta and stuffed peppers.
Boutiques will display and sell such items as preserves, spices, books, cassettes and cards.
The public is invited to attend and there is ample parking with security. Admission is $2.
