Golf scramble

Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Mahoning Valley’s Golf For Kids’ Sake Golf Scramble is Sept. 13 at Knoll Run Golf Course beginning at 9 a.m. The four-person scramble costs $75 per golfer or $300 per team for which golfers will receive 18 holes with cart, a continental breakfast, lunch, and chicken and roast- beef dinner with the cost. There will also be door and team prizes, a 50-50 raffle, skins, a $10,000 hole-in-one contest and skill prizes.

Hole sponsorships are available for $100 each, which include program recognition and a full-color sign at the sponsor’s designated hole.

Kickoff event

Covelli Enterprises is sponsoring a kickoff event for the United Way of Youngstown and Mahoning Valley 2010 campaign from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 9.

The event, United We Dine at O’Charley’s, 930 Windham Court, will include the Youngstown State University Coaches Show featuring head coach Eric Wolford, local media personalities and raffles including sports memorabilia with proceeds benefiting the 2010 United Way Campaign.

Day of Caring

YOUNGSTOWN

The United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley’s 13th annual United Way Day of Caring is Sept. 10 during which some 350 volunteers from 31 area companies and agencies will complete tasks for some 30 local nonprofit organizations. Projects may consist of painting, construction, landscaping, cleaning or home repairs.

The day, which is also the official start of the 2010 United Way Campaign, will kick-off with a breakfast at 8 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Hall.

Screenings

HUBBARD

Giant Eagle Pharmacy in conjunction with Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine (NEOUCOM) College of Pharmacy faculty and students are offering blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, and osteoporosis screenings Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Doo Wop Room, 111 North Main St.

All screenings are free except the cholesterol screening, which costs $10.

People must fast for at least 12 hours prior to glucose and cholesterol screenings.

A pharmacist will be available to answer questions related to medications, prescription or over the counter medicines.

Arthritis walk

KIRTLAND

The 2010 Fall Arthritis Walk steps off at 1 p.m. Sept. 12 at a new location, Lake Metroparks Farmpark, 8800 Chardon Road.

The noncompetitive 5K walk (3 miles) has a 1-mile option. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. and Farmpark admission is free with walk registration and donation.

All Walk proceeds benefit the Arthritis Foundation, Northeastern Ohio Chapter.
