Volant man killed by BB

A Volant man who was killled Saturday night was shot with a BB gun, said New Castle Police Chief Tom Sansone.

Sansone said Frank Breitenstein, 45, died after a BB pierced his chest, striking a key artery.

Sansone said Breitenstein was leaving a home on New Castle’s West Side when he saw a younger man who appeared to be shooting a BB gun at nearby houses.

Breitenstein and the younger man exchanged words before the shooting, Sansone said.

Breitenstein chased the shooter, but began coughing up blood, Sansone said.

He was taken to Jameson Hospital, where he went into cardiac arrest and died.

No charges have been filed.
