James Lloyd jazz concert at Metroplex

LIBERTY

James Lloyd, founding member of smooth jazz group Pieces of a Dream, will perform at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Holiday Inn Metroplex on Belmont Avenue. Lloyd will be accompanied by Michael Austin on saxophone and Willie Ross, also of Pieces of a Dream. Tickets are $30 and $50 and are available in advance at the front desk of the Metroplex Hotel, and also by calling the promoters, Jeff Green at 330-360-1848 or Al “Jap” Robinson at 330-651-1861. Green and Robinson have been staging Jazz in the Park, the weekly outdoor jazz concerts at the B&O Station on Sunday afternoons in the summer. The Jazz in the Park series has ended for the year, but proceeds from Sunday’s James Lloyd concert will go toward next season.

Benefit concert for injured firefighter

A benefit concert for Kurt Magnello will take place 5 -11 p.m. Sept. 11 at Yankee Lake Ballroom, state Route 7. Performing will be Gary Pirrung, and a special one-night reunion of Area 51. Admission is $20, and includes dinner, draft beer and pop. A cash bar will be available. There also will be a Chinese auction, gun and TV raffles, and 50/50 drawing. Magnello. a Brookfield firefighter/medic, was seriously injured in an off-duty accident July 15. Robots to battle at Truck Night

Truck Night at Yankee Lake will host Transformer vs. Space Viper on Friday night. Gates open at 6 p.m., and the robots will battle after 8 p.m. Spectator admission is $5 (free for children 10 and under). For those bringing trucks to participate in the mud bogs and other challenges, admission is $10.
