It’s a Big Deal
Canfield Fair
Canfield Fair
By the Numbers
The 164th Canfield Fair opens at 8 a.m. today. The Vindicator has compiled a few fair statistics to show just how big the Canfield Fair is.
Pucker up: About 308,000 lemon shakes are sold during the fair. That would be the same as giving every person in the city of Canfield 41 lemon shakes.
Bumping elbows: Average attendance for all six days of the fair is 380,000. That same number of people could fill YSU’s Stambaugh Stadium more than 18 times.
Heavy duty: More than 300 tons of waste are hauled away during the course of the fair, which would be the same as hauling 60 full-grown male elephants.
Traffic jam: The fair parking lot can fit about 35,000 cars. The average length of a car is 16 feet, and if all 35,000 were lined up bumper-to-bumper, they would stretch from Akron to Pittsburgh along Interstate 76.
Spacious field: Fairgrounds are 353 acres, and 271 football fields could fit inside.
Sizzlin’ sausage: DiRusso’s sells thousands of pounds of sausage during the fair. If stretched from end to end, the sausages would reach about two miles. That’s a rope of sausages wrapped around the Canfield Fairgrounds racetrack four times.
