Five things you may not know about Eric Wolford
1 He’s a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Sort of.
Wolford doesn’t watch much TV — he’ll occasionally catch “Deadliest Catch” on Discovery — and his one sports indulgence is watching a college football game on Saturday night, provided he gets home in time.
But when the Brookfield native has to name his favorite NFL team, he picks the Steelers.
“I like tough teams,” he said.
2 He doesn’t watch movies, either.
The last one he remembers watching in the theaters? “Dodgeball,” which came out in 2004.
When asked to name his favorite movie, he sighed and said, “Geez, oh man. ‘Gladiator.’ I haven’t seen a lot of movies but ‘Gladiator’ is a good movie.”
3 He likes country music.
Wolford, who now lives in Liberty, has XM Radio in his car and switches between pop and country channels, specifically “Prime Country” and “Nashville.”
“I listen to a little bit of everything but I only get an 8-10 minute ride in the car every day,” he said. “And usually I’m talking or thinking about something else anyways.”
4 He’s a shoe buff.
This, by the way, is the one answer he came up with to the question, “What would be people be surprised to know about you?” It took him several beats to answer.
“I like shoes,” he said. “If I like it, I buy it. I’ve got tons of shoes.
“I’ve got more shoes than my wife; put it that way.”
Wolford is most often now seen wearing red and black Under Armour cross trainers, which are supplied by the company per their deal with the university.
5 He used to drive a purple Camaro.
Wolford is extremely proud of his college alma mater — he has a tattoo of a purple Wildcat on his arm — and the Camaro was just an extension of that.
He has an agreement with a local car dealership where he has to turn in his car every 5,000 miles. Because of his recruiting visits, he’s already gone through the Camaro, a Chevy Tahoe and an Avalanche. He’s driving a Chevy Traverse now.
