2nd corruption trial delayed for Ex-Pa. Rep. Veon
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — The second corruption trial for a disgraced former Pennsylvania lawmaker has been delayed.
Former State Rep. Mike Veon is currently serving 6 to 14 years for using taxpayer money to finance campaign work. The Beaver County Democrat also faces charges of misuse of grant money distributed to a nonprofit he ran.
The trial related to the Beaver Initiative for Growth had been scheduled to begin September 13, but on Tuesday a Dauphin County judge postponed the trial until January 31.
Attorneys for Veon cited scheduling conflicts in asking for the delay.
Veon and two aides were convicted in the so-called Bonusgate scandal. One of those aides, Annamarie Perretta-Rosepink, is also charged in the nonprofit case.
