Kent State 33, Ball State 14

KENT

Spencer Keith threw for one touchdown and 252 yards to lead Kent State. Freddy Cortez kicked two field goals for the Golden Flashes (4-4, 3-2 Mid-American Conference), including a 43 yarder to bring them within 7-6 with 1:11 left in the first quarter. Kent State then scored two unanswered touchdowns in its second straight win. Dri Archer’s 16-yard run put the Golden Flashes ahead 13-7 and Dorian Wood returned an interception 61 yards for a 13-point Kent State lead with 10:33 left in the third quarter.

Wood had 10 tackles, including one for a loss, to lead the Golden Flashes defense as it held Ball State (2-7, 1-4) to 272 yards of total offense.

Temple 30, Akron 0

PHILADELPHIA

Redshirt freshman Alex Jackson caught his first career touchdown pass. Temple (7-2, 4-1) won its 10th straight home game to tie a school record and posted back-to-back shutouts for the first time since blanking Connecticut and Xavier during the 1971 season.

N. Illinois 28, W. Michigan 21

KALAMAZOO, Mich.

Chandler Harnish threw two touchdown passes and ran for a third score to lead Northern Illinois. Harnish found Willie Clark with a 21-yard TD pass with 3:42 to play to lift the Huskies (7-2, 5-0) to their six straight victory, their longest winning streak since 2004. Alex Carder was 31 of 53 for 360 yards and three touchdowns for the Broncos (3-5, 2-2). His 23-yard TD pass to Robert Arnheim with 5:56 remaining gave Western Michigan a 21-20 lead, but Northern Illinois then drove 79 yards in seven plays for the winning score.

Ohio 38, Louisiana-Lafayette 31

ATHENS

Boo Jackson threw for three touchdowns and had a rushing score as Ohio’s defense put constant pressure on the quarterback. Jackson completed 16 of 22 passes for 240 yards but had four interceptions for the Bobcats (6-3). He also rushed for 74 yards on 11 carries, scoring on a 7-yard run in the first quarter. The Ragin’ Cajuns (2-6) pulled ahead 14-7 after Aaron Spikes caught a 20-yard touchdown from Brad McGuire and Spikes’ 7-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.

Bowling Green 17, Central Michigan 14

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich.

A 1-yard touchdown run by Jordan Hopgood with 21 seconds remaining. The Eagles (2-7, 1-4) drove 59 yards in seven plays to the winning score after recovering a fumble by Paris Cotton, who rushed for 111 yards on 23 carries for Central Michigan (2-7, 1-5). Willie Geter rushed for 103 yards on 26 attempts for Bowling Green, which won at Central Michigan for the first time since 2004. Kamar Jorden had nine receptions for 92 yards.

Toledo 42, Eastern Michigan 7

YPSILANTI, Mich.

Terrance Owens threw four touchdown passes to lead Toledo. Owens, who replaced injured starter Austin Dantin in the first quarter, found Danny Noble for scores of 74 and 6 yards in the first half as the Rockets (6-3, 5-0) moved to a 15-7 halftime lead. Owens hooked up with Adonis Thomas for 68 yards and Eric Page for 53 in a 3-minute span in the third quarter to open up a three-TD edge.

Owens finished 10-of-15 for 234 yards. Page, who led Toledo with five catches for 86 yards, also tossed a 5-yard touchdown pass to David Pasquale in the fourth quarter.

Miami (Ohio) 21, Buffalo 9

BUFFALO, N.Y.

Zac Dysert threw for 231 yards and two touchdowns as Miami (Ohio) defeated Buffalo 21-9 in a Mid-American Conference game on Saturday. Dysert found Nick Harwell for a 5-yard score in the first quarter and a 29-yarder in the second as the RedHawks (5-4, 4-1) built a 14-0 halftime lead. Harwell caught the second touchdown pass one-handed with 22 seconds left. It was the only score of the game into the wind, which gusted up to 40 mph. The Bulls (2-6, 1-3) got a 52-yard field goal from John Rachuna in the third quarter to make it 14-3. After forcing Miami to punt, Robert Partridge’s punt into the wind traveled just 6 yards, putting Buffalo at the Miami 33. Zordich’s 12-yard touchdown run cut the deficit to 14-9. Miami’s final score came on a 2-yard run by Thomas Merriweather after Dysert’s 40-yard pass to Chris Givens put the RedHawks on the Buffalo 2.
