YSU LIVE | Penguins lose 34-30

The YSU football team lost to Northern Iowa 34-30 in Saturday's game at Stambaugh Stadium.

Billy Hallgren made a 32-yard field goal with 14:20 left, giving the Panthers their first lead of the game. This is the fourth time this year the Penguins have given up a double digit lead -- they lost the first three.

YSU WR Dominique Barnes caught a pass in the first minute of the fourth quarter to move into a tie on the school's career receptions list with 150.

RB Adaris Bellamy helped YSU regain the lead with 8:39 left on a 2-yard TD run off an option to the right. But Stephen Blose missed the extra point wide right, the second missed PAT of his career. The other one was blocked. The drive went 13 plays, 81 yards.

UNI responded with a seven-play, 58-yard drive, capped by Jared Herring's 11-yard touchdown run with 6:03 left. The Penguins burned their final timeout of the half just before the TD run.

The Penguins answered with a seven-play, 70-yard TD drive capped by a 39-yard TD run by Jamaine Cook with 2:27 left. QB Kurt Hess converted two third down plays on the drive, the latter setting up the Cook run. Cook went over 100 yards rushing, the third player to do so against UNI this year. He also went over 1,000 for the season with the run.

But, like YSU did against North Dakota State, the kickoff coverage was awful, with Carlos Anderson returning the kick to the Penguin 19. One play later, QB Tirrell Rennie scored straight up the middle with 2:08 left.

YSU got the ball back but failed to get a first down and UNI ran out the clock.
