YSU LIVE | Penguins lead 7-3 after first quarter

The YSU football team leads Northern Iowa 7-3 after the first quarter of Saturday's game at Stambaugh Stadium.

After forcing a punt, YSU scored on its opening possession. Quarterback Kurt Hess threaded a 33-yard TD pass between two defenders. Andre Barboza timed his jump perfectly, catching the ball near the 5, breaking the tackle and jogging into the end zone.

It was Barboza's first career touchdown pass. He entered the game with just one reception for 5 yards.

UNI kicker Billy Hallgren made a 20-yard field goal on the final play of the first quarter. That score was set up by YSU RB Jamaine Cook's fumble at the 9. That field goal made Hallgren the Panthers' all-time leading scorer.

The Penguins will have to go into a pretty strong wind in the second quarter.
