She can do everything from put a band-aid on a scraped knee to diagnose an ailing child with asthma. But after 14 years of working in Austintown’s schools, Frank Ohl Intermediate’s new school nurse Georgia Case knows to just expect the unexpected.

“I never come to school knowing what the day will bring. Some days, there are kids right off the bus, feeling sick, or maybe they fell at the bus stop. Most days are filled with cuts and bruises, bellyaches and coughs. I’m always watching kids with serious health issues like diabetes or asthma. Yes, it’s definitely different every day,” Case explained.

However, it seems like nothing a seasoned professional like Case can’t handle. The Youngstown native has experience on her side, with a nursing degree from YSU, a master’s in Health Education from Kent State, and jobs at Austintown’s Woodside, Lynn Kirk behind her.

But even after many years of taking temperatures and asking where it hurts, Case’s passion hasn’t waned.

“As school nurses, we’re really caring for the whole child. We are by no means replacing doctors, but we’re another medical resource and a valuable tool for parents. I’m appreciated every day, and I love that.”
