WARREN

East High had to go the distance for a victory Friday night — literally.

Shajehan Haywood threw two touchdown passes to Tyrell Riddle on the final three minutes on Friday to lead the East football team to a 32-31 victory over Akron Ellet.

On the game’s final play, Haywood hit Riddle for a 98-yard score to reduce the Ellet lead to 31-30.

East coach Brian Shaner said there “was no second guessing” about the conversion play.

“We haven’t kicked an extra point all year,” Shaner said.

Devonta Fleetion’s conversion gave the Panthers (4-6) the victory.

Trailing 31-16, Haywood connected with Riddle for a 60-yard score. Haywood ran for the conversion points.

After a failed onside kick, Ellet ran three plays then punted deep, setting up the Haywood-Riddle play.

Shaner estimated that Haywood passed for 275 yards and Fleetion, who scored two touchdowns, ran for 80.
