The Austintown Council of PTAs is hosting its annual campaign to raise money to buy food vouchers for those in Austintown who are in need.

The PTAs from each Austintown school are holding their own drives and in the end, all monies will be combined to purchase food vouchers.

The Lloyd Elementary PTA kicked off its Special Services Coin Drive Campaign by hosting “Freaky Fridays.” Each Friday in October, students who donated 50 cents to Special Services were permitted to wear the most mismatched outfit they could create.

Oct. 8 was the first Freaky Friday and many students participated. The variety of outfits included plaids with stripes, mismatched shoes and socks, mismatched hair styles, along with many other ideas.

“The students have a great time creating the mismatches but more than that, they enjoy the giving,” said Lloyd PTA President Lynn Mickey.

The students can also randomly donate their coins throughout the entire campaign. Staff is also invited to join in the fun for a $1 donation.

Posters in the halls by each classroom track their giving. Students were asked to write in their words what “giving” means to them and those words decorate the posters.
