Trains sideswipe in Ohio rail yard, cars damaged

COLUMBUS (AP) — Two trains collided at an Ohio depot, spilling diesel fuel and damaging more than 20 rail cars.

Authorities in Columbus say the accident occurred after 9 p.m. Thursday when one train partially derailed and sideswiped the other as the two were passing.

Fire department Battalion Chief Jim Wintering told WBNS-TV the damage to the rail cars appeared to be superficial. No injuries were reported.

A fuel tank on one of the trains was ruptured. The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency is investigating whether the spill caused any environmental damage.
