BOARDMAN

Registered dietitians from Humility of Mary Health Partners and staff of the D.D. and Velma Davis Family YMCA in Boardman are offering a weight-management program for children 9 to 12 called SlimDown for Kids.

The program provides nutrition counseling and fitness training.

The program runs Monday to Dec. 9. Participants meet from 5 to 6 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays for fitness activities and 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays for a nutrition class, which parents/guardians also attend.

Registered dietitians certified in childhood and adolescent weight management teach the nutrition classes; fitness classes are taught by YMCA fitness instructors. All classes are at the D.D. and Velma Davis Family YMCA, 45 McClurg Road.

YMCA members may register online. All others may call for a registration form at 330-480-5656. The cost is $60.

Halloween benefit

On Sunday, Boardman Wedgewood Pizza, 6200 South Ave., will donate a portion of its sales to benefit the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley 2010 Campaign. To order a Halloween pizza on Sunday, call 330-726-2010.

Childbirth classes

Three-week prepared- childbirth classes will be from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Nov. 1, 8 and 15 at Trumbull Memorial Hospital, 1350 E. Market St. The classes prepare mothers-to-be and their partners for a shared learning experience by learning Lamaze techniques and receiving information about pregnancy, labor and delivery. Free lecture

Hermitage, Pa.

Dr. Robert Collins, reproductive endocrinologist with the Magee Center for Fertility and Reproductive Endocrinology, North, will present “Why are My Cycles Irregular? Is it Polycystic Ovaries?” from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Womancare Center of UPMC Horizon, 875 N. Hermitage Road. The lecture is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided. Drivers needed

The American Cancer Society needs volunteer drivers in Columbiana County to provide rides in their vehicles for cancer patients to and from medical treatment.
