Warren man killed on I-80 in Pa.

A Trumbull County man was killed at 2:36 a.m. Wednesday after he drove the wrong way on Interstate 80, Pennsylvania State Police reported.

Paul G. Warner, 23, of Warren was westbound in the eastbound lanes for unexplained reasons, state police said.

State police said he hit a tractor-trailer driven by Alexandre Stoilkov, 62, of Schiller Park, Ill.

After the impact, Warner’s vehicle traveled in a counterclockwise direction across the eastbound lanes, and his car rolled over. He was ejected from the vehicle, police said.

Mercer County Coroner Brad McGonigle pronounced Warner dead at the scene from head trauma. Stoilkov was not injured, police said.

Treez Please seeks volunteers for project

Treez Please is seeking volunteers to plant trees from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Irma Davis playground at Oak Hill and Kenmore avenues.

Seven trees will be planted at the playground in holes pre-dug by the city parks and recreation department. Volunteers should bring a shovel and gloves and wear sturdy shoes.

Halloween events at Boardman Park

This is the last weekend to enjoy the Halloween Festivities at Boardman Park.

The evening starts at 5 p.m. Friday at the Shops at Boardman Park, where local businesses will pass out treats. Follow the trail into the park, where “Trunk or Treat” starts at 6 p.m. in the parking lot behind Maag Outdoor Theater.

Continue on to the Ex-Serviceman’s Pavilion and see the lighted pumpkins display. Make s’mores or roast a hot dog at the campfire at the concession stand.

Jocko the Clown will be making balloon art for the little ones, and they can enjoy a bounce-a-round for free.

The evening also includes taking a ride on the haunted wagon ride. Family discounts are available. Events are Friday and Saturday only until 10 p.m.

Gas station robbed of cash, cigarettes

YOUNGSTOWN

Police are investigating a robbery at the Speedway Gas Station on North Meridian Road.

According to police reports, a man entered the store shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday, threw a bag on the counter and demanded cash and two packs of Newport cigarettes.

The female clerk handed over the cash and cigarettes but said the man never displayed a weapon. The man ran away. No arrests have been made.
