Sharon Regional Health System now offers an innovative uterine fibroid treatment, called uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) that treats uterine fibroids. The procedure is performed by an interventional radiologist in about one hour and offers recovery times as short as one week.

Celebration, health day

Join Healthy Treasures as it celebrates its 15th anniversary celebration and fall health day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Free lectures will be offered at the Brew Basket Cafe and food samples and giveaways will be at Healthy Treasures. Speakers and their topics include Dr. Ted Suzelis, 11 to 11:45 a.m., super bugs and the dangers of antibiotic overuse; Dr. Craig Cleal, stress management, 12:15 to 1 p.m., and Dr. Gail Pavliga, Ph.D., depression, 1:15 to 2 p.m. To register for the lectures, call 330-872-1119. UPMC Horizon’s imaging services, including ultrasound, mammography, magnetic resonance imaging, nuclear medicine, computed tomography and positron emission tomography, were all recently awarded a three-year accreditation by the American College of Radiology.

Fall-prevention talk

Ben Melnykovich, registered nurse and trauma outreach/injury prevention coordinator at St. Elizabeth Health Center, will talk at the Jewish Community Center at 11 a.m. Nov. 8 about how to prevent falls. Humility of Mary Health Partners physical therapists will also be on hand to test participants’ gait and balance. The cost is $5 for nonmembers and free for members. The second annual “Miracles and Promises” Radiothon raised $149,840 for Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley. The Radiothon was broadcast live on Mix 98.9 and 570 WKBN from the hospital’s Beeghly Campus on Sept. 23-25. All money raised will stay in the Valley. More than 400 volunteers staffed phone banks and helped with the accompanying Children’s FunFest.
