It won’t be as windy today as Tuesday, but gusts could reach 40 mph this afternoon.

It will be mostly sunny with a high in the upper 60s today in the Mahoning Valley, said Martin Thompson, a hydrometeorologist with the National Weather Service in Cleveland.

The area should have a steady wind of 10 to 15 mph early today and then increase to 15 to 25 mph in the afternoon with gusts of up to 40 mph, Thompson said. There is no rain in the NWS forecast for today.

Wind gusts were stronger Tuesday with the Valley under a wind advisory for much of the day. The advisory was lifted by early evening.

Tuesday’s winds were related to powerful storms and tornadoes that hit portions of the upper Midwest.

It will be partly sunny Thursday with a high temperature in the mid-50s and a 20 percent chance of rain.

It will be breezy most of the day with winds of 15 to 25 mph and gusts up to 35 mph, Thompson said.

“It’s a windy period,” Thompson said of Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in the Mahoning Valley.

The wind shouldn’t be a factor Friday. The NWS forecast calls for mostly cloudy with a high in the low 50s.
