BOARDMAN

The Mahoning-Youngstown Regional Information System, with its new high-speed broadband technology, now links Mahoning County and Boardman Township, County Auditor Michael V. Sciortino and Township Administrator Jason Loree announced Tuesday.

Sciortino, who seeks re-election next week, said the township will see immediate cost savings of nearly $50,000 in disaster-recovery services alone.

The system, launched last year and known as MYRIS, connects the county auditor’s information- technology department with other local governments in the county.

It is designed to provide three primary services: access to critical information to assist law enforcement, shared information-technology data and services across governmental jurisdictions, and disaster-recovery and business- continuity solutions.

MYRIS is designed to save taxpayer money by eliminating duplication of services and to improve services to the public, Sciortino said.

Sciortino proposes to use MYRIS to consolidate the county’s emergency-911 servers in his IT department.
