County investigating inmate’s facial injuries

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Officials in Allegheny County are investigating whether a corrections officer was involved in an alleged assault on an inmate.

County spokeswoman Megan Dardanell said that authorities are looking into the cause of inmate’s injuries. Jail officials would not confirm the investigation.

Twenty-four-year-old David Kipp had numerous facial injuries during a brief court appearance last week. A mug shot taken immediately following his Oct. 13 arrest showed no apparent injuries.

Defense attorney Kevin Abramovitz says he doesn’t believe another inmate was responsible for Kipp’s injuries.

Kipp is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Wednesday. He is charged with aggravated assault for allegedly stabbing a roommate in the arm.
