Howland boys earn rematch with Canfield

Canton

The Howland High boys soccer team advanced to the Division I district final with a 2-0 win over host Canton GlenOak on Monday.

Brian Papalas ended the scoreless tie early in the second half. Papalas received a pass from teammates Connor Gilmour and kicked the ball past Spencer Semple for the score.

Scott Heinemann scored the other goal on a penalty kick midway through the half. Goalkeeper Robert Daniels made seven saves.

Howland will travel to Canfield to play the Cardinals in the district final Thursday at 7 p.m.

Girls Fitch 4, Niles 0

Austintown

Kaitlyn Shiley had three goals and Emily Durina added another for the Falcons, who advanced to the Div. I district semifinals.

Ali Tolich saved five shots, Emily Estes saved nine, and Kristen Schmidt had an assist.

Fitch will host Canfield on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Lakeview 5, Warren JFK 0

Cortland

Lindsey Clark led the Bulldogs with a pair of goals in the first half, and Lakeview turned the Eagles away in a Div. II semifinal.

The Bulldogs also received goals from Justine Defrancesco, Ali Gagne and Allison Pavlik.

Gagne and Pavlik each had an assist also.

Lakeview will host Cardinal Mooney in the district final on Thursday at 7 p.m.
