High winds expected later today in the Valley

The Mahoning Valley is under a wind advisory till 10 p.m. today.

Wind gusts of up to 55 mph are expected about 4 to 5 p.m. today, and could remain close to that speed till 10 p.m., said Martin Thompson, a hydrometeorologist with the National Weather Service in Cleveland.

There’s also a very good chance of thunderstorms in the late afternoon to the evening, he said.

“Significant storm damage is possible,” Thompson said.

But there won’t be much rain accumulation because the wind will move the storms through the area quickly, he said.

“There’s no concerns about flooding,” he said.

The winds will diminish overnight with sunshine and a high in the upper 60s expected Wednesday. But there could be wind gusts of up to 40 mph Wednesday afternoon, Thompson said.

It will be partly sunny with a high in the mid-50s Thursday with wind gusts reaching 35 mph, he said.
