Bodies exhibition extends its run

CLEVELAND

Because of strong demand, the run of BODIES … The Exhibition, originally slated to close at the month’s end, has been extended until Jan. 2. The exhibition is at the corner of East 4th Street and Euclid Avenue, downtown. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays, and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. The educational exhibition uses preserved bodies to demonstrate the human body’s skeletal, muscular, reproductive, respiratory and circulatory systems. It uses roughly 250 whole and partial dissected human specimens to illustrate damage caused by unhealthy habits.

Free performance

CANFIELD

Contemporary Christian singer-songwriter Jenah Ross Shank will give a free performance at 7 p.m. Friday at the Cup of Joy Coffee House at Life Care Ministry Center, 5357 S. Raccoon Road.

Shank leads worship at 9 a.m. Sundays at the Petro Truck Stop Truckers Ministry in Girard, where her husband, Ron Shank, serves as chaplain. She also leads worship at Log Cabin Ministries in Austintown. She has recorded several CDs, including a Christmas album, and is working on a new songs- of-worship collection.

Big Band concert

YOUNGSTOWN

The Dana School of Music Jazz Ensemble 1, directed by Kent Engelhardt, will give a free concert at 8 p.m. Monday in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center on the Youngstown State University campus.

Popular Big Band swing music, including selections from Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Woody Herman and Buddy Morrow, will be played. Several selections have been either arranged or edited by Engelhardt, author of “Charlie Parker: Culture and Influences,” which traces the development of Parker, a jazz saxophonist, from the musical and cultural environment of Kansas City. Engelhardt is coordinator of jazz studies and associate professor of jazz studies.
