Progress in Liberty earns support

Something remarkable happened in Liberty. The determined school/community partnership has pulled it off. The recent State Department of Education Report Card now ranks Liberty schools as excellent. The diligent, can -do spirit in the school district, in spite of the reality of cost cutting in the areas such as staff, transportation, technology, building budgets, and increased class size, has done the job for the children and the township taxpayers. All of Liberty’s residents should be pleased for our students and proud to be part of a community that cares for them.

The Liberty Local School District has placed a 3.1 mill zero tax increase renewal levy on the ballot this fall originally approved by voters in 1986. The renewal is for tax dollars that are critically important to the effort of holding on to that excellent rating we’ve worked so long and hard to attain.

Cost control has allowed the school board to make a lean request of renewal of an existing levy. The board and staff clearly has the experience of doing more with less. Additionally, continued community support, including parents stepping up to get involved, and a realization that a certain level of continued funding is essential to do the job right. We believe our schools provide a good value at an amazingly low price. Excellent ratings are hard to get.

We ask Liberty voters to vote for the zero tax increase renewal levy on Nov. 2. By voting yes, we’ll continue critical funding with no new taxes to help us maintain an excellent rating. It’s a good decision for our kids. It’s a good decision for the quality of life in Liberty Township, and it won’t cost an extra penny.

Cat deaths should inspire outrage

I don’t understand why more people aren’t upset that Animal Charity killed over 64 adult and baby kitties from Cat Ladies rescue without having to show proof that they had to be destroyed.

Look back at the news video of this disgusting raid. Those kitties were fine. Cats with colds recover. You don’t kill them.

It is a shame that an agency can raid a shelter, kill the animals and never have to prove why they deemed that necessary. It is an outrage.
