Youngstown man is indicted in killing of man on East Side
YOUNGSTOWN
The Mahoning County grand jury has indicted a city man on an aggravated murder charge with a firearm specification in the April 21 shooting death of Emanuel Izquierdo on the city’s East Side.
Indicted in the slaying was David Figueroa, 27, of Martin Luther King Boulevard.
Izquierdo, 31, for whom police had no address, was found fatally shot in the back yards of 117 and 127 N. Lane Ave.
With no positive identification on him, Izquierdo was found lying face down on the ground with three bullet holes in the back of his head and bullet holes in the back of his neck, his back, forearm and buttocks. Police found 15 spent 9 mm shell casings nearby.
Witnesses reported hearing shots at 11:17 a.m., but no one reported seeing the shooting, police said.
Also indicted was Christian W. Jaeger, 56, of Newton Avenue, on a felonious assault charge with a gun specification in an incident in which a rifle bullet ricocheted off a Maple Avenue basement wall, hitting his wife, Andrea, 43, in the back of her shoulder in late June.
The grand jury also indicted Michael A. Varchulik, 41, of Meadowbrook Avenue, on two counts of aggravated robbery and one count each of grand theft and receiving stolen property.
Varchulik, who has been jailed in lieu of a $500,000 municipal court bond, is a suspect in two robberies committed with a knife.
The first was an Aug. 14 robbery of a woman in her vehicle, while she was engaged in an ATM transaction at PNC Bank on Market Street in Youngstown.
The second was the Aug. 15 robbery of an on-duty 17-year-old employee at Angiuli’s Farm Market in Canfield, in which $60 was taken.
