Avoiding harm

Ohio law prohibits open burning between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. in October and November due to dry, fall conditions as a way to keep residents safe, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

Safety Tips

Burn debris in a 55-gallon drum with a weighted screen lid to act as an enclosed incinerator.

Be aware of current and future weather conditions, especially wind.

Have supplies, such as a bucket of water or fire extinguisher, on hand.

Never leave a flame unattended.

Be informed of state and local burning laws.

Talk to someone at your local fire department for rules and safety tips.
