Village officials are hoping for a good turnout at a public meeting Tuesday to explain electric aggregation. The issue is on the ballot Nov. 2.

Aggregation allows a community’s residents to purchase a utility as a group, getting a better rate, according to First Energy Solutions, which runs the electric aggregation program the village will use.

Aggregation has to be approved by voters first. If it passes, residents won’t need to take special steps to join the program. They can, however, opt out of it.

If they want to opt out, they can return an opt-out form to First Energy Solutions. The form will be mailed to them.

People can choose to stay with their present supplier or they can shop for another one, the company said.

Every three years, people will be given the chance to opt out of the program. If they want to opt out sooner, they may have to pay a cancellation fee.

Mayor Jim Iudiciani said the village explored various electric-aggregation programs throughout the year before choosing First Energy Solutions.
