Canton man, Kentucky woman win 36th Peace Race in Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN — Andrew Carnes of Canton crossed the finish line in under one-half hour to win the 36th annual Peace Race today.

Carnes, 23, crossed the Federal Street finish line with a time of 29:25.7 after meandering through Mill Creek Park and downtown Youngstown. The Kent State University student led for almost the entire race, and finished 24 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

Carnes said the10k run was ideal because of the 69-degree temperature and clear skies.

Winning the event for the women was 29-year-old Salome Kosegi of Kentucky.

Hundreds competed in the 2010 race.
