YSU LIVE | Penguins lead 9-7 after first

The YSU football team led South Dakota State 9-7 after the first quarter of Saturday's game at Coughlin-Alumni Stadium in Brookings, S.D.

The Jackrabbits took the opening kickoff and drove 68 yards in seven plays, capped by a 1-yard run by Kyle Minett with 12:04 left. They were the first points scored by SDSU in the first quarter this season, a span of eight games.

The Penguins answered two minutes later with a 34-yard field goal by Stephen Blose, who has made seven straight field goals to go with his school-record 55 straight PATs. The drive went six plays, 44 yards.

YSU forced a SDSU punt on the Jackrabbits' next series, then went three-and-out, then forced another SDSU punt.

On YSU's third drive, the Penguins went 89 yards in 10 plays, capped by a 33-yard TD pass from Kurt Hess to Dominique Barnes with 1:41. But Blose's PAT streak was stopped when the extra point was blocked. It was the first career PAT miss for Blose.
