A variation of bobbing for apples was made for the fall fest, where the children needed to use a straw to lift a balloon out of the water to win a prize. Here, Noah Salyers gave it a try.

The “Woodside Elementary Fall Fest” was almost too tame of a name for the festivities that took place in Woodside’s gym: Bonanza, blowout or extravaganza might be better suited to explain the fun and games that took place on Oct. 14. Woodside principal Tim Kelty brought his daughters to the event.

“I think it was wise for the PTA to plan our fall fest on a Thursday, when we have Oct. 15 [the next day] off of school. Now the kids can have the fun that they deserve, and sleep it all off,” he said.

Woodside was jam-packed with activities, including a DJ and dance floor, corn maze, limbo competition, crafts, face painting, and carnival games for the children to play. Woodside parents showed impressive support for their children, and some fun was available for them too, as a basket raffle, door prizes, and a 50/50 raffle provided excitement.

“All proceeds from our Fall Fest go into throwing holiday parties for the students, and funding any activities that enrich the Woodside experience,” explained Woodside PTA President Lori Schafer.

Pausing and looking around at the hundreds of parents and students enjoying food and fun, Schafer went on.

“But our Fall Fest is more about community. We love to get together supportive Woodside families and celebrate them, and I think we’re succeeding.”
