Watch your mailbox for new gas rates

For Poland Village residents, the gas rates are in the mail.

Township officials are sending mailers to residents and small businesses concerning the new natural gas aggregation program offer from Vectren Source. The information should arrive in your mailbox on or about Friday.

Vectren Source won a competitive bid and will be replacing IGS Energy as the village’s supplier. Residents participating in the village’s natural gas program will pay a low fixed rate of $5.9886 per mcf for all gas consumed during the 12 months November 2010 through October 2011.

“Vectren Source will be sending out similar letters to two groups of customers in our community. Residents and businesses who have not chosen a supplier will receive an opt-out letter from Vectren Source,” said Mayor Tim Sicafuse. “These account holders will be automatically included in the village’s program unless they opt out during a 21-day period as stated in the letter.

“The second mailer will be sent to non-Vectren customers who are served by other suppliers. This group will include those customers who participated in the current program supplied by IGS Energy. This group will need to contact Vectren to enroll in the program.”

According to Tami Wilson, president of Vectren Source, residents and small businesses may call Vectren Source at 800-608-8510 or return the reply card that comes with the letter sent to their home. They can also enroll online at www.getnaturalgas.com/polandvillage, using the “Special Offer ID” shown in the letter.

Residents served by another supplier should be aware of the obligations in their existing contract before joining the Poland Village program, as many suppliers charge a penalty for early termination.

New customers to the program must be in good standing and cannot be part of the utility’s Percentage of Income Payment Program (PIPP).

For information on this program, do not call the Village offices. They are not equipped to handle a large volume of calls. Residents should contact Vectren Source at 800-608-8510.
