BHS soccer team wins first tournament game

The BHS boys soccer team opened postseason tournament action with a 10-1 win over Canton Timken Oct. 18 at the BHS soccer field.

Boardman held a 9-0 lead at halftime and extended the score to 10-0 before Timken tallied its goal with under a minute to play.

Scoring for the Spartans were sophomore Nico DiIanni (assisted by junior Christian Silvestri), junior Christian Silvestri (assisted by senior Cameron Broyles), senior Cameron Broyles (assisted by junior Christian Silvestri), senior Matt Smaldino (assisted by freshman Alex Thomas), senior Zaire Morrison (assisted by junior Christian Silvestri), freshman Alex Thomas (assisted by junior Drew Rober), sophomore Chase Sawyer (assisted by sophomore Mark D’Eramo), senior Danny Kennedy (assisted by sophomore Mark D’Eramo), sophomore Chase Sawyer (assisted by sophomore Mark D’Eramo), senior Chris Tokarsky (assisted by senior Matt Smaldino).

Spartans finish third in Federal League

The Boardman High School boys varsity soccer team finished regular-season play Saturday with a 2-2 tie against Austintown Fitch. Nico Dilanni and Sam Cervone tallied goals for the team, while Chris Tokarsky registered five saves in the goal.

The team defeated North Canton 2-1 Oct. 12, after Hoover took an early 1-0 lead only six minutes into the game. Zaire Morrison evened the score just before halftime with a team-leading 15th goal of the season. Matt Horvatich put the Spartans ahead when he scored with two minutes remaining in the contest. Tokarsky had three saves. The team finished third in the Federal League behind co-champions Massillon Jackson and Canton GlenOak with a record of 7-6-3.

In the final JV match of the season, the Spartans defeated Hoover 2-1. Luke Marsco scored both goals for Boardman and Andrew Peters logged an assist.

Glenwood teams net 10th wins

Boardman Glenwood’s eighth-grade volleyball team defeated Howland 25-15 and 25-11 Oct. 13.

Hope Landers had eight aces, two kills, two digs and one block. Katie Davis has eight assists and one kill. Amanda Lipke had five kills, one ace, one dig and one block. Haley Landers had two aces and one dig.

The seventh-grade volleyball team defeated Howland 25-16 and 25-17. Krista Johnson had 10 aces, five kills and one dig. Dara Genovese had four assists, two digs, one ace and one kill. Marissa Hanna had two aces and two assists and Emily Fetsko had three aces.

Both teams have won 10 games this season.

Boardman Center battles AMS

Austintown AMS seventh-grade volleyball team defeated Boardman Center Oct. 11 in two games.

The first game was 25-9 and the second game was 25-23.

Boardman Center did defeat the AMS eighth-grade team in two 25-17 games.

Glenwood tops AMS Red

Boardman Glenwood’s eighth-grade volleyball team defeated AMS Red 25-12 and 25-11 Oct. 12. Katie Davis had 14 assists, two kills, one ace and one dig. Amanda Lipke had 12 kills, and one ace. Hope Landers had two aces and one block. Haley Landers had one ace and two kills. Kelsie Stutz had two aces and one dig.

The seventh-grade team defeated AMS Red 25-17, 18-25 and 25-2.

Krista Johnson had 23 aces and six kills. Elli Hritz had six aces and three kills. Marissa Hanna had six assists and two digs. Katie Platt had six assists.

Glenwood impresses at county meet

The Boardman Glenwood’s cross country team made a good showing Oct. 9 at the legends meet in Trumbull County.

Juan Santiago came in sixth overall and Zach Stamp was 11th out of a field of almost 200.

The boys came in fifth out of 16 teams.

In the girls race, Regan O’Hara finished seventh overall, Ely Larrier finished 25th and Stephanie DeMain came in 83rd out of 173 girls.

Final meet for cross country season

The Boardman Glenwood’s cross country team ran in its final meet at the Mahoning Valley Championship Oct. 12.

Allison Green and Elly Larrier finished 27th and 30th, respectfully overall with Regan O’Hara finishing 14th.

In the boys’ race, Alex Fanzo and Nick Long battled to get in the top 30, while Zach Stamp broke into the top 10, finishing seventh. Juan Santiago came a step back in a photo finish to come in second out of 130 runners.
