Archbishop: Reviews are insensitive

NEW YORK

New York City’s archbishop is taking issue with The New York Times for praising an art exhibit and a play he says are insensitive toward Catholics. The exhibit is by the AIDS activist group ACT UP. The Manhattan play is “The Divine Sister.” Archbishop Timothy Dolan tells WCBS-TV that the Times is allowing insensitive references to Catholics it would not allow for other religions.

The Cambridge, Mass., art exhibition features a poster of the late Cardinal John O’Connor alongside a condom, although that piece was not specifically mentioned in the paper’s review. Dolan also criticized a photo accompanying the play review, which he says showed a nun in a “suggestive pose.”

Photographers say guards assaulted them

RANTHAMBHORE NATIONAL PARK, India

News photographers say bodyguards for Russell Brand assaulted them as they shot pictures of the British comedian touring a national park in India before his wedding to Katy Perry. The photographers say they were in a jeep behind Brand’s on Friday when two bodyguards jumped out of their own jeep and began punching them and their driver.

The photographers say bodyguards snatched the keys to the photographers’ car, stranding them in Ranthambhore tiger sanctuary. They say Brand watched. The four photographers work for The Associated Press, Reuters, Agence France-Presse and the Hindustan Times newspaper. Brand and pop singer Perry are in India for their wedding planned today.
