The Mass Choir of Monument of Faith Church of God, 2165 Highland Ave., will present a free concert at 4 p.m. Sunday in celebration of the 21st evening in song.

First Friday Club

Timothy R. Smith, musician and composer with Oregon Catholic Press, will be the featured speaker for the First Friday Club of Greater Youngstown on Nov. 4 at Antone’s Banquet Centre, 8578 Market St.

Smith will speak on “Music and the Journey of Faith.”

First Baptist Church of McDonald, 602 Illinois Ave., will feature a video presentation of Tim Lahaye’s “Left Behind Prophecy Series” at 7 p.m. Wednesdays through Nov. 17.

The program offers an in-depth examination of Biblical prophecy.

The Bread of Life Church of God in Christ, 702 Cameron Ave., will host the first Women’s Day at 5 p.m. Sunday with the theme, “Women of God: Conditioning Themselves to March into the Future.”

Evangelist Lisa Bridges of Akron will speak. Pamela D. Wellington is host, missionary Avis Santiago and Andrea Ford are co-chairs. Elder Rocco V. Wellington Sr. is pastor.

Catholic Collegiate began its 2010-11 year with a fall dinner featuring Dr. Cynthia Anderson, president of Youngstown State University.

Catholic Collegiate is an organization for Catholic women with degrees. The aim is to further the interest of Catholic education, promote friendly relations between Catholic and non-Catholic groups, aid the present Catholic welfare societies and develop a spirit of friendliness within its own group. The next meeting, on Dec. 4, will be a Christmas luncheon featuring musical entertainment.

Appreciation event

Grace African Methodist Episcopal Church will honor its pastor, the Rev. Gena Thornton, during an appreciation celebration at 4 p.m. Oct. 31. She was named pastor in 2009 by Right Rev. C. Garnett Henning, presiding bishop of the Third Episcopal District and is the first woman pastor at the church. The Rev. Kenneth Simon of New Bethel Baptist Church and choir and congregation will participate.

The Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown invites all adults who work with middle- school-, high-school- and college-aged teens to an in-service event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 8 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 4453 Warren-Sharon Road in Vienna. (St. Thomas is the new name of the merged parishes of St. Vincent de Paul in Vienna and St. Bernadette in Masury). The theme is “Helping Teens to Better Know and Love the Lord.” Youth ministers, pastors, directors of religious education, campus ministers, retreat directors and volunteers will explore ways to enhance parish, school and collaborative youth ministry. Mike Norman, associate director for the Office of Religious Education for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, will be the speaker and facilitator. Cost is $29 per person, which covers lunch and supplies. Group discounts are available. This program can be applied toward four general certification hours in religious education. Lutheran-Catholic Covenant event

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Youngstown and the Northeast Ohio Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Lutheran-Catholic Covenant on Oct. 31 in St. Columba Cathedral, 154 W. Wood Street. Bishop George V. Murry of the diocese and Bishop Elizabeth Eaton of the synod, will preside at evening prayer at 6 p.m. A reception will follow in St. Columba Cathedral Hall. Bishop Marcus J. Miller of the Northeastern Ohio Synod and Bishop Thomas J. Tobin of the Diocese of Youngstown signed the Covenant on Oct. 29, 2000. They initiated the covenant after the World Lutheran Federation and the Vatican Council for Promoting Christian Unity signed the Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification by Faith in 1999. The Commission charged with implementation of the covenant invites all Catholic parishes and Lutheran congregations to pray for Christian unity, especially on that Sunday.
