Center’s cross country team finish strong in Columbiana Invitational

The Center Middle cross country teams continued a successful season earning team honors Oct. 16 at the Columbiana Invitational held at Columbiana High School.

The girls team captured a third-place finish while the boys took second place.

Jordan Grantonic led all runners with a first-place finish out of 72 runners with a time of 11:22.9 for the girls team.

Irina Sprankle followed in 13th place running the course in 12:28.4.

Other point winners were Anna Saxton in 23rd place (13:36.6), Haley Gianfrancesco in 33rd place 14:09.3 and Jennifer Neapolitan in 35th place (14:20.3).

Kellie Dunham took 41st with 14:39.2 and Elena Arduin took 42nd with 14:43.2.

Other finishers were Meghann Morrow (43rd, 14:44.5), Veronica Marcella (49th, 14:54.7), Brooke Zackasee (52nd, 15:06.4) and Morgan Bindas (55th, 15:27.0).

Burton Berkshire took race honors with an average time of 13:80.0 followed by Southeast Middle in second with a team average of 13:15.86.

Center’s average was 13:11.50 earning them the third-place finish.

David Pelletier of Burton Berkshire led all boys runners with a time of 10:03.8.

Brothers Zach and Brian Fryda finished together for Center with Zach crossing at 10:27.6 for fourth place and Brian three seconds behind at 10:30.5 for fifth place.

Andrew Gable rushed into a ninth-place finish with a time of 11:08.8.

Adam Deeley (19th, 11:33.5) and Adam Calhoun (21st, 11:35.6) finished in the top five for the team earning place points, while Kostos Kasamias (25th, 11:41.7) and Sean Allen (31st, 11:56.4) placed as pushers helping Centers cause.

Other Center runners finishing included Eric Jones (36th, 12:08.2), James Harker (39th, 12:13.9), Andrew O’Nesti (68th, 13:45.9), Dustin Sattarelle (72rd, 14:00.0), Vince Huzicka (80th, 14:27.6), Sam Mariano (82nd, 14:30.1), Matthew Brown (84th, 14:34.0) and Tim Cunningham (88th, 15:20.1).

Burton Berkshire placed first with a team average of 11:08.62 followed by Boardman Center averaging 11:03.20.

Boardman Glenwood took third place posting a team average of 11:12.82.
